Starlink Installation Day: What Actually Happens
Customers often ask why professional installation matters when Starlink markets itself as plug-and-play. The kit is indeed simple — but Ugandan roofs, trees, storms, and power realities are not. Here's what our technicians actually do.
1. The site check
Starlink needs a wide, clear view of the sky — a single mango tree in the wrong place can cause dropouts every few minutes that feel like 'bad internet' but are pure obstruction. We scan the sky with the official app, walk the compound, and pick the spot with truly open view, which is often not where people expect.
2. Mounting for the rainy season
The number-one cause of Starlink problems we're called to fix is a poor mount: dishes on loose poles that shift in wind, roof penetrations that leak, cables draped where water follows them into the house. We use proper mounts, sealed penetrations, and UV-resistant cable runs — boring details that decide whether your internet survives March.
3. Power and protection
We wire the kit through surge protection — Uganda's lightning seasons are unforgiving — and where power is unstable, advise or install the right backup so the router isn't rebooting five times an evening.
4. Network setup
The Starlink router alone rarely covers a full compound or office. We design the WiFi properly: additional access points where needed, a separate guest network if you want one, and sensible names and passwords you control. If you buy Starlink in your own name, the Starlink account is yours. On a DishNet plan, we register and manage it on your behalf, and you can ask us to transfer it to you (see our Terms of Service).
5. Handover
We run speed tests together, walk you through the app, and leave you with our WhatsApp line — because the installation ends, but the support doesn't. That after-sale support is the actual product; the dish is just hardware.
