In short. We collect what we need to sell, install, activate, bill and support your service. We share it with Starlink to activate your service, with those who help us serve you, and where the law requires; section 5 lists everyone we share it with. We never sell your information. You can ask to see it, correct it, or delete what we no longer need or should not hold (some records, such as tax records, we must keep by law), and you can stop marketing at any time. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Office.
DishNet Africa Limited ("DishNet", "we") decides how your personal information is used for the services described here. Our office is at 4th floor, Acacia Mall, 14-18 Cooper Road, office TT06, Kampala. For any privacy question or request, e-mail info@dishnetafrica.com with "Privacy" in the subject, WhatsApp +256 705 993 348, or write to us at our office. The Data Protection and Privacy Act and its Regulations set out how we must handle your personal information. This policy explains how we do it. This policy is the Privacy Policy referred to in our Installation Terms.
| Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Identity and contact | Name, phone and WhatsApp number, e-mail address. For businesses, the business name and the contact person. Proof of identity, where the law or service activation requires it. |
| Location | Installation and delivery address, the location pin you send us, the location recorded when your installation was completed, and photos of the installed equipment. |
| Account and service | Your plan, equipment serial numbers and identifiers, Starlink account and service details, installation and support history, your approval of installation jobs, and service data such as data used, connected devices and connection status. |
| Payments | Invoices, receipts, the mobile-money or bank transaction reference, and the number or account that paid. We never ask for your mobile-money PIN, or for the password to your bank, e-mail or mobile-money account. We keep your WiFi network name and password, securely, when we set up your WiFi or manage your network, and when you change them or turn on the hotspot in our customer portal, so that we can show them to you and support you. |
| Communications | Messages, voice notes, photos and documents you send us on WhatsApp, by e-mail or through our website chat, notes of calls and, where a call is recorded, the recording. |
| Website | Basic technical data your browser sends when you visit, such as your IP address and browser type, and what you type into our chat (see section 12). |
We collect most of this from you directly. Some comes from others: Starlink (the status of your service), payment providers (confirmation of your payment), or a DishNet partner who referred you or sold to you.
We use your information where it is needed to carry out our agreement with you, to comply with the law, or with your consent. Where the law requires your consent, we ask for it, and you may withdraw it at any time. We treat payment information as sensitive financial information, and use it only to take and record your payments and refunds, to prevent fraud and to keep the records tax law requires.
To provide a service we need your name, a phone number, the installation address and, where the law or activation requires it, proof of identity. Without these we cannot provide the service. An e-mail address is optional but helpful. Agreeing to marketing is always optional.
We never sell your personal information. We share it only as follows, and only what each one needs:
Some of the companies above store or process information outside Uganda. Examples: Starlink, WhatsApp, e-mail and cloud services, AI services, and the servers that host our customer systems. We transfer personal information outside Uganda only where the law allows it: where the country that receives it protects personal information at least as well as Ugandan law, or where you have agreed to the transfer. When you order a Starlink service, we ask you to agree to your activation details being shared with Starlink.
Some replies on WhatsApp and in our website chat are written by an automated assistant that uses artificial-intelligence services. You can ask for a person at any time. Our billing system pauses a service automatically at the end of an unpaid period, as our Terms of Service describe; you can ask a person to review it at any time. Apart from that automatic pause, we do not use automated decisions to refuse you a service or change your price without a person involved.
When we no longer need information, we delete it, destroy it or remove the details that identify you.
We protect personal information with access controls, encrypted connections, staff confidentiality and limited access on a need-to-know basis. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your information at risk, we notify the regulator as the law requires, and we tell you where we need to.
You may ask us:
Contact us using the details in section 1. We may ask you to prove your identity, so that we do not give your information to someone else. We reply within 14 days. Some records we must keep by law, for example tax records, even if you ask us to delete them. If you do, we tell you which and why.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Office (pdpo.go.ug).
We send offers and news only if you have agreed to receive them, with two exceptions: if you ask us about a product or service, we may follow up on that enquiry; and when a service ends, we may send you one message inviting you back. Reply STOP on WhatsApp, or tell us any other way, and we stop. You will still receive service messages about your bills, payments, installation and faults.
This website does not use advertising or analytics trackers. It loads its fonts from Google's font service, which receives your IP address when the page loads. Our website chat keeps your last 20 messages in your own browser so that you can continue later; clearing your browser's site data removes that copy. Everything you type is also sent to our systems, where our team can read it, together with any name, number or e-mail you leave. It is handled like any other message to us, including by our automated assistant (section 7). We delete website chats, and the details left in them, after 90 days. We keep your IP address for up to two days to prevent abuse of the chat.
